Umwelt analysis as a research method [PRG1504, Horisont 101084220]

Jakob von Uexküll's Umwelt theory describes the subjective worlds of animal species - how the world is meaningful from the point of view of a given organism.

Perspective of another species

Umwelt theory has practical applications in species conservation, urban management, working with pets - wherever it may be important to consider the perspective of another species.

The goal

The aim of the analysis of the umwelt is to identify objects that are meaningful to an organism and the features by which the organism recognises these meaningful objects. Simultaneously, the set of distinctions made by the organism and the set of features and affordances of the organism's habitat can be described.

Results

The research team will develop and apply the Umwelt analysis as a research method in different species and environments.
