Research creation and species extinction [PRG1504]

Culture plays an important role in shaping human behaviour towards the environment by allowing us to imagine and act out alternative relationships with nature. Similarly, people do not usually experience endangered species directly, but, because of their rarity, mostly through literature, art or film.

Research group

The research group will combine the methods of semiotics and creative inquiry to explore and promote cultural representations of rare animals and thereby change people's attitudes towards species extinction.

Results

As a result of the lecture courses on this topic, an exhibition and a collection of endangered species is being produced as part of the Tartu 2024 European Capital of Culture project.
